In 2001, letters containing anthrax spores were mailed to several news media offices and two Democratic U.S. senators, killing 5 people and infecting 17 others. Dozens of buildings were contaminated with anthrax as a result of the mailings and the decontamination took 26 months and cost the U.S. government $130 million.
Anthrax is an acute disease cause by the bacterium Bacillus anthracis. It’s a bacterium that primarily affects grazing animals such as sheep, cattle, goats and horses. Researchers have found that a cup of black tea can help inhibit anthrax. Components of tea such as polyphenols have the ability to inhibit the activity of Bacillus anthracis and its toxin considerably.
Ricin, a powerful poison which comes from the humble castor oil bean has a gruesome reputation as a bio weapon. Even a tiny amount can kill a person within two to three days after getting into the bloodstream. Well it turns out that daily consumption of tea can deactivate ricin.
